German producer Christian Löffler describes his music as melancholy combined with euphoria. I closed out my Best of last year with his magical track ‘York.’ As he describes on his Bandcamp page:
“All my music is connected by a gloomy spirit, which is minted by a warm sincerity. I try to merge all kinds of different acoustic colors to obtain this feeling in my music.”
Sound mimics environment
The young producer makes his tracks in a log cabin overlooking the Baltic Sea. Tracks on his latest album Mare place you in his wandering, coastal environment. His subtle field recordings and moody synthesizers create a Walden state of mind.
‘Lemonline’ is not a new production. Chicago House producer Leron Carson (RIP) made the track in 1987. But it’s finally getting a proper release roughly two decades later thanks to Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature label.
It’s a proper old school groove. Also be sure to check out ‘China Trax’ from the classic 1987 EP.
Detroit beatsmith Jay Daniel is back, this time dropping a forthcoming LP entitled Broken Knowz on Ninja Tune’s Technicolour sublabel.
He’s teased two singles thus far, ‘Knowledge of Selfie’ and ‘Paradise Valley,’ the latter which is streamable above. According to Resident Advisor, he opted to go analog this time around, using drumsticks instead of a drum machine, heard most notably on tracks like ‘4 Red‘ and ‘Royal Dilemma.’
“Euphoria Guaranteed – or your money back!” That’s the tagline from Polish house producers Earth Trax and Newborn Jr.
Their two-track EP blends saxophone and flute samples into respective jazzy balearic cuts. I expect nothing than the less than timeless dance music from South London’s Rhythm Section International. Stream ‘Flute track’ after the jump.
There Is No Right Time is the ten track debut album from Berlin-based house producer Youandewan, AKA Ewan Smith. Stamp the Wax, which premiered Smith’s collaboration with Steve Huerta on the track ‘Left on Lucy,’ has called the record one of “the best electronic music LP’s to have graced our ears this year.”
Lush in synths and drum n bass bounce, ‘Waiting for L’ is still one my favorite tracks (video below). This is one of those rare albums that takes you on a euphoric journey from start to finish.
“Swimming in this,” says one of his fans on his SoundCloud page. Hard to disagree. Max McFerren AKA Complete Walkthru and formerly MCFERRDOG is a house/techno producer from New York. His most recent release S/T is a nine song cassette on the Canadian 1080pcollection imprint, known for dropping some delicious beat craftmanship from producers all over the world. Side note: I’m looking forward to the Luis-Dreamt Takes release next month.
While ‘Intuition Brought Me Here’ is my favorite song on McFerren’s album, ‘Blatant Doug’ (stream it below) is also a atmospheric gem with an uplifting vocal sample.
