After teasing his new track ‘X22RME‘ two weeks ago, Actress is back with another dark, grinder of a single.
‘Dancing in the Smoke’ sounds as Actress sees music, as bits of data, and the hypnotic loop and accelerating orchestral keys allude to our electronic ‘future,’ a vocal that punctuates throughout the track.
Actress’s album seems to be pairing well with today’s gloomy times.
The album aptly titled AZD launches later this month. Snag both tracks on the Ninja Shop.
Sherwood & Pinch are London-based dub producers Adrian Sherwood and Rob Ellis aka Pinch. This is the second collaboration from the duo that originally met at the Fabric London night club. “Having spent around five years working together, our work flow has developed and improved considerably, and we both feel that the music we’re making now is something neither of us could or would do alone,” says Ellis.
‘Itchy Face’ is one of the standout arrangements on the latest record Man Vs. Sofa, trickling with their trademark bassline punches before stepping into soft touches of the piano. Meanwhile, ‘Roll Call’ and ‘Gun Law’ ring with murderous dread overtones.
“I’m really proud of Man Vs. Sofa – Pinch and I have developed a proper great sound together and this is a real step forward,” affirms Sherwood. A grand step forward from two heavyweight producers, indeed.
DJ Nervosa is one of the founders of Lisbon’s funky electronic kuduro and batida scene, championed by the Príncipe label who have consequently put out Nervosa’s first record.
The combination of a wonky rhythm and a non-verbal vocal sample on the track ‘Ah Ah’ evinces the city’s unique hyper-energized interpretation of dance music, further corroborated by the seemingly unstable beat of ‘Kuia.’
The Príncipe label is rightfully ambitious. As it states on its SoundCloud page:
“We want to make sure that the amazing work being produced here, be it house, techno, kuduro, batida, kizomba, funaná, tarrachinha or any other new aesthetic development, will not remain unheard outside of our clubs, cellphones and homes anymore.”
The emerging sounds coming out of Lisbon’s suburbs and ghettoes stand on their own. So too does the artwork. Label founder and artist Márcio Matos individually designs all vinyl copies of the EP.

“Do the thing.” Those are the words that appear on Godriguez’sSoundcloud page. The urgency to make interesting beats drives this Sydney-based producer, known for the sweet sounds behind MC Sampa the Great.
‘Maxlushcarloswc’ is his latest jazz-infused drop, contributing it to Mixtape #6 – The Dreamy One released from the Wondercore Island imprint.
